In 1934...
James Mann Wordie led a team of researchers to West Greenland and Baffin Island to map uncharted coastline. In addition to improved geographic data, the team returned with a wealth of cultural material and their own impressions of local Inuit communities. These objects, photographs and journals were donated to the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (MAA) and the Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI) at the University of Cambridge.
For the first time since 1934, a selection of this material has been brought together to visually represent the expedition's encounters and experiences in the Arctic. Select 'Expedition' to follow the sailing route and to read about the crew's daily life and encounters with the local Inuit. Select related items on each page to view the objects collected, photographs taken and accounts written during the expedition.
